1. Black Hole Hunger
The fastest growing black hole known to man was first found in 2018, by Dr Christopher Onken. He stated that the mass was 8000 times more than that of the one that resides in our milky way galaxy’s centre. The result of such mass says that the black would have to swallow as much stars as two thirds of our entire galaxy. The black hole, J2157. The team used ESO [European Space Organisation]’s Extremely Large Telescopes to get the data on the Black hole’s mass. They stated that the mass is 34 billion times the mass of the sun. The black hole is situated in Galaxy Holm 15A, 700 million light years away from Earth.
2. Jupiter's Role in Black Hole Hunting
A team from North American Nanohertz Observatory for Gravitational waves
(NANOGrav) have been searching for supermassive black holes in and around the milky way galaxy. They were researching on the precise location of the Centre of Gravity of our solar system. Centre of gravity is used to locate the gravitational waves from massive black-holes around. They claim to be searching for changes in the rate at which they detect regular flashes of radio waves from pulsars. Pulsars are celestial bodies that emits pulses of radio waves in a regular interval. The team states that any deviation in the pulses could mean an influence in the gravitational waves warping in our galaxy. To observe a system, one has to be in the centre, and monitor all. Everyone would think that the centre of the sun is the place, but no. Jupiter’s mass and its orbit is not known absolutely to humans. Galileo Probe studied Jupiter up until 2003, with a lot of technical faults and such that impacted the quality of the measurements. They conclude by stating that to find more massive black holes, we need to concentrate on Jupiter first.
3. Black Holes' Collision may explode light
On May 2019, Laser Interferometer Gravitational Waves Observatory (LIGO) and the European Virgo detector witnessed a merger of two black holes. What’s surprising is that it detected a flare of light from the collision. For a long time, it was believed that collision of black holes may not explode with light, as there is no possibility of a black hole emitting light. But some astrophysicists claimed the opposite. For the first time, scientists detect light from a collision. An astrophysicist states the complete theory behind the emission of light. As stated by him, most of the galaxies possess a giant black hole in the centre. This black hole is surrounded by many stars, dead stars, and more black holes. These black holes always try to pair up with another one. But sometimes, after pairing, wants to leave. But around a super massive black hole, the gas flowing around it organizes the black holes such that they pair up correctly. Along with the energy produced from the merger, a reaction takes place with the gas, that sends of a bright flare of light in a random direction. These flares are expected to appear after days, or weeks after the collision. The team says that they were able to rule out most of the other possibilities of these light sources.
